My first driving 'lesson'

Created by Kevin 2 months ago

I was but 10½ years old when Dad gave me my first (and only!) driving 'lesson' - at Cole Green tip in a 7 ton Bedford lorry!

As follows:

"Come on, it's about time you could do this" said Dad. "What do I do first?" I said..."YOU'VE SEEN ME DO IT, NOW YOU DO IT!!!"..."NO NO NO NO NO!!!"..."NOT LIKE THAT!!!"..."LET THE CLUTCH UP SLOWLY!!! SLOWLY!!! SLOWLY!!!"

That was over 61 years ago, but I have never forgotten that...er...'valuable' driving lesson which, ultimately, led me on a career path of motoring on all levels, including running my own driving school and driving tour coaches all over the UK and Europe. I have also, as an advanced driver myself, been a lifelong promoter and advocate of safer driving techniques, as well as being a complete 'petrolhead' with a passion for sports cars.

Bye for now, Dad. You have been surrounded by love and care throughout your illness, bravely borne. You will be missed beyond measure.

Kev.
